Future & Present of Taekwondo in India - A review through a district Varanasi & state Uttar Pradesh.

Taekwondo being a part of olympic games & being included as a chaptor in CBSE 10+2 physical education as well as in CBSE National games , SGFI National games does not require an introduction. Overall it's one of the world most favourable martial arts sport.

In India Meritorious athletes of this sport get benifits of getting admission in University through sports quota , a constable or head constable job in Police Force or Other defence related job etc as that of other games.

But do Taekwondo has its present status in India  as good as of other games and sports ???

Can we have faith in this sport to have a bright future as of other games ???

The status of present and future has a big question mark because of high level of politics in this lovely martial arts .

The rule of this game does not allow to hit below waist level but the so called officials and the people who dream to have a high post in the management committee are doing what so ever they can do for there personal war of winning the level of Position.

Being a struggling athlete of Taekwondo for a a decade and being associated with this sport for over 12years , I can  say a better present but again a blank future .

Starting from the district of Varanasi where I started Taekwondo in the year 2003.
In Varanasi I played my first championship in year 2004 , being a passionate & dedicated on skills , never looked upon the belt grading and it is becomes much true when you have a dedicated coach.
Next in 2010 while making a come back in Taekwondo arena I found it compulsory to be a blackbelter for competating at state level and the secretary general of Varanasi used to ask 50%  amount of the fee of black belt to participate in district level championship.

I extremely found ridiculous as a beginner needed atleast 2years and 2 month to be eligible for a black belt digree and so written a letter to secretary of the state association but no reply till date.
The secretary of our District chagerged a huge amount on the name of TFI id card n belt test etc , which I never got anything .

It's not just the story of a district , its a common practice of others as well , as they take it as a source of there bread and butter plus a source of extra income .

Finally when I came to Lucknow district for my Graduation in IHM Lucknow &  joining Taekwondo in Lucknow , I found the belt test fee , ID card is much cheaper as it's been more then thrice in comparison to Varanasi .
I immediately reported it to the State secretary but till now again no action but it resulted in lowering down the price in Varanasi.

In Lucknow only we have Mr. Jimmy Jagattiyani who claims to be Father of Indian Taekwondo but he get a storng competition by Mr Puran Andrew Gurung  whi also proves to be Father of Taekwondo in India & Nepal but any way it's a different thing , I don't want to go deeper in it.

Mr Jimmy also runs a Taekwondo Federation of India and claims to be original one which he still does & god knows the truth !!
The result of his court case might prove him .

So since it has been more then two years & I did not received any color belt from my district secretary and to participate in state championship , it was must to be a black belt & there was no such condition in the Championship of Mr. Jimmy Jagattiyani so I started participating in his events ,played two National as well and even became black belt .

Now to participate in the authorized state championship of the TFI affiliated to Indian Olympics , I lost my opportunity being blamed to be an athlete of Mr Jimmy Body ...
It was such a humiliation that I have done something really threat ЁЯШвЁЯШв.

But anyway I wanted to be out of this so asked for the way of salvation.
I got a very easy step that I need to write an apology letter and have to take transfer .
For transfer I need to pay ₹5000 ,
Ohhh I wanted to spit on such a currupt system so I wrote a letter to  Ministry of youth affairs as well as asked reason to Mr Harish Kumar the then President of TFI and state secretary about this , that how an athlete is treated as such guilty .
Why so much fee which is equivalent to the blackbelt fee. ??

I don't know what they thought and transfer fee was brought down from ₹5000 to₹1000  and I took the transfer in the authorized Taekwondo Body .& Happily participated in the official state championship of 2014.

It was not the end a championship "Challenge the Champion open national " was organised in which athlete were changed ₹3000 withought any facility if food and accommodation .
This championship was said to be trial for asian games but those who did not have a valid passport were also allowed , It was completely a way of pocketing money .

I could not control myself  &  being friend with the president of  TFI on Facebook , I strongly puted  my objection on his  facebook wall as well as through message on facebook itself .

The long conversation ended by his statement that we are not doing any charity .

Finally again after few months the same short of championship was organised in the name of commonwealth Taekwondo championship trial  in Pune but this time fee was reduced to ₹1250  .

The hights of corruption went on its top when each District was asked to pay ₹3000 annual fee for annual affiliation .

Now it was something which made Mr Harish Kumar as a threat and here it started the foundation of his downfall.

Now a new National President & Secretary has been elected , The President has not been a known name in our Taekwondo world but secretary yes .

It is same as that of Janata Party succes over Congress which soon got broken because of its internal issues.
It will not be a big thing if the same happens , here in Taekwondo also as the only change has been in the National body .
Most of state is leading by same people and where the other people have risen the older official wants to takeover them .

In Uttar Pradesh we have the same senerio .
There are a lot of things happening just for having the authority , people are dominating each other.

An Election has already been organised for state body by Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association about 6 months ago but still a lot politics and the game blaming and dominating each other are taking place , just to be in Power , no sportsmanship .

So I feel the future by this small analysis of present .

Will this chair fight end ever ??
Will there will be some sportsmanship??

A blank answer for me ......
