Pita Taufatofua"s Lesson of Taekwondo spirit for a country like India
Pita Nikolas Taufatofua lives in Brisbane, Australia but chose to represent Tonga, a Polynesian island nation with a population of 105,000, because that is where his father comes from.
But in India if a an athlete wants to do so , may asked to to give a No Objection Certificate it might take a good time enough to divert the mind , to feel demotivated.
He has failed to qualify for three previous Olympics occasions and suffered a slate of serious injuries, including six broken bones and three torn ligaments, on the long road to Rio.
But having finally made it, he was handed the honor of carrying the Tongan flag in the parade of nations wearing nothing but a ta'ovala, or Tongan mat.
Is it so that Indian athlete can not show such a dedication to be an Olympian ?
Being a Taekwondo athlete for a dedicated decade I will claim there is nothing like this .
There are players who are a star performer and been for 15 years and so but the in-house politics of National federation is the sole reason .
The latest example is of recent south Asian Games where star athlete Shradha Dixit could not participate because of 2 national heading body in Indian Taekwondo .
Shradha Dixit who has been Indian star for a long time , have won many medals for India icluding Gold Medal & best player award in Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship .
If a player like her who have represented India In Asian Games , World Championship , Commonwealth championship can miss her opportunity then we can easily understand the level of management in India ..
What would be the level at lower levels , State and district which are the base of any athlete .
This is a high time to think for it .
